The Midland Border Terrier February 2021 Open Show

It is with regret that the officers and committee of The Midland Border Terrier Club Show have decided to cancel the February 2021 open show.

Due to Government guidelines regarding social distancing and public gatherings, which are doubtful to be lifted in the very near future, there really is no option.

As well as all of this and most important we are mindful that the health and well being of all of our exhibitors, judges, stewards, and helpers is of paramount importance.

It is very disappointing for everyone but health and safety comes before a dog show and we look forward to seeing you at some point in 2021.

The Club have rearranged the 2020 Championship Show to be at The Birmingham National Dog Show on terrier day, 6th May 2021. The Midland ring will be adjacent to the Birmingham National Border Terrier ring with opposite sex’s judged in parallel.

This change of date has been approved by the KC and is subject to any restrictions relating to Government / KC advice on Covid-19

Breeding Advisory from The Breed Health Group

The demise of the Animal Health Trust along with various Covid-19 restrictions has caused a serious pause in the testing of Border Terriers for SLEM.

We are pleased to confirm that Dr Cathryn Mellersh is hoping that the Genetics Centre Team will be able to restart testing in the Autumn and that she hopes by then to be based at Cambridge University.

In the meantime the Border Terrier  Breed Health Group recommends that anyone breeding Border Terriers should take care that if they have a bitch that is not known to be clear either hereditarily or by testing, they should only use a stud dog that is confirmed as ‘clear’.  In such circumstances the progeny should be registered at the Kennel Club with an endorsement ‘Progeny not Eligible for Registration’.  This endorsement will be able to be removed when either the mother is tested clear or the puppy itself is tested.

Failure to use a ‘clear’ stud dog in these circumstances risks the litter being affected by SLEM.

We will announce as soon as we become aware that testing in the UK has restarted.
